Calling all London bloggers!

I’ve just taken over the running of the London Webloggers Meetup Group and would love to hear from anyone interested in, well, meeting up.

From what I can see the previous events haven’t quite gone with a bang, which is surprising when you consider how many of us there are living and blogging in London.

The London Weblogger Meetup Group!

The next meetup date isn’t set yet, so you’ll have to keep coming back here or head to the group homepage to find out more.

Please, if you’re a London blogger, get in touch. Say hello, join the group (it’s free) and come along to one of the events. They should be a great place to learn some blogging tips, monetisation strategies, develop joint ventures, or to simply meet some like minded individuals.

All are welcome, as long as you are a blogger. It doesn’t even matter what you blog about!!
Cheers,
Andy

PS if you are a blogging consultant, coach, or professional, or want to come and present about what you’re up to, please drop me a line.

What Type of Advertising is Most Trusted by Internet Users?

I came across this article on eMarketer today and it makes some interesting reading. It’s essentially a summary of the results of a survey conducted by Nielsen into which types of advertising are most trusted by internet users. The survey was conducted in 47 different countries across the globe so it’s pretty comprehensive. So what then was the number one response to the question of which form of advertising is most trusted…..

wait for it….

it’s ‘recommendations from consumers’, which was ranked number one by 78% of respondents.

What does this mean for us internet marketers then?

Well recommendations from consumers are essentially word of mouth in the offline world, but online this can mean comments in forums, blog posts, ratings sites and other user generated content. Worth keeping an eye out for anything written about you or your product then, perhaps by setting up Google Alert.

If you see some bad comments, make sure you investigate why and turn those unhappy customers into happy customers. if you receive a lot of good comments, start incorporating those as testimonials on your sales literature and squeeze pages.

What’s also interesting about the survey results comes further down the results.

61% rated comments posted online (which in my mind is the same as recommendations from consumers) and 49% rated email subscriptions as effective forms of advertising. A lot further down come search engine ads and banners at 34% and 26% respectively.

You might want to keep these figures in mind next time you put a marketing campaign together, or think about a traffic promotion. If recommendations from consumers are twice as likely to be effective, you might want to spend twice as much time generating positive customer experiences than setting up Payperclick ads.

Anyway, read the full report at the fantastic eMarketer site.

Pushing advertising to the (vertical) limit

As per usual when I come across some really great brand advertising I’ll post it up here. I found this little beauty from Adidas on Michael Leander Nielsen’s fantastic marketing blog.

Anyway, check it out. Adidas have gone to town with this billboard in Tokyo and you can see why it’s attracting so much attention. Congratulations to the agency who dreamt this one up.

Hands up those who’d like to have a go?

New toys from the FOWA Expo

I attended the FOWA (Future of Web Apps) Expo in London today with the aim of identifying both useful apps and doing a little new business prospecting. I have to say the show didn’t deliver on the new business side, but I did find two really interesting applications that I want to share with you.

fowa logo

The first is called YuuGuu and it’s essentially an instant messaging application with a couple of bonuses added on. The first is the ability to share your screen over the web, currently only to other YuuGuu’ers but soon to be available through your web browser.

Why is this relevant you may ask?

Firstly it gives you the ability to present to your clients or prospective clients online for free - the closest competition is Webex and that appears to cost £27 ($54 approx.) per meeting. You can run through presentations, work on design concepts and more all online, saving the time and costs of travelling to a meeting.

The second benefit is the ability it gives you to work collaboratively with disparate teams. If like me you work with contractors dotted around the world, the ability to actually share screens and work together on a project could be very handy indeed. I’m certainly going to ask my teams to take a look at this.

It’s also possible to take control of the remote screen, so if you are offering technical support, you could deliver this remotely quite easily. Almost like a Sharemypc programme that’s absolutely free. Anyway, that’s the plug for YuuGuu over.

The second product is called Wakoopa. This is slightly less commercially interesting but none the less could provide some benefit for your business. Essentially it’s an application that monitors the software you use on your PC / Mac and summarises which programmes you use most frequently.

So what I hear you say.

My reaction entirely, until I learnt that it will then make recommendations for other software you would benefit from, with reviews and more. Now that could indeed be interesting.

Check them out and enjoy. I have already hooked up with YuuGuu and Wakoopa will be coming shortly.
