Social media is, indeed, so widespread that it’s essentially its own medium. It’s one of the few instances of a business creating something that is truly viral in nature - both the use of platforms like Twitter *and* the fact that celebrities like Kutcher, etc. are creating their own networks (dominions?) via the platform. Some once thought that it was all a fad, but at the very least Twitter represents a stepping stone to something much larger. It’s not going to go way, as fads do, unless it is to transform into something even bigger.

There is no point in Twittering the all day or having a great Facebook profile if your potential customers are not there. Sometimes, a great targeted newsletter will simply bring more leads.

Hi, I agree with you that Social Media is the way to go, however i find it so challenging to focus on all the avenues to use, Twitter, Facebook, Blogs etc…I end up doing many things badly. On top of this doing SEO, it can become a nightmare to manage, however I know that if I don’t get up facebook soon I am going to miss out.
How mad is it that Facebook took 9 months to get a billion subscribers.

(This only applies, of course, when a blog is set up to take comments. I’ve encountered a few that don’t allow them, though they weren’t business blogs; if they were, closing off that means of communication would be very foolish!)

It’s the people who are scared of social media who are holding us back. They take the most prolific medium in history and hand it over to people who can do the most harm, instead of embracing it and steering it toward a positive light.
I’ve found that Facebook is a great way to make connections with people in your industry, however I’m yet to be convinced it is such a powerful tool when it comes to promoting your product or services to potential customers. People don’t use FB to shop for things, they still use Google as facebook is primarily a peer to peer service and no company etc can influence an individual to promote their product (The exception being the Chinese Government who pay people).
