Blogging Value
In the past year or two there’s been plenty of talk about the value of blogging for business, with plenty of positive and negative sentiment. My own opinion, not biased at all by the fact that I write a couple of blogs, is that they’re fantastic for businesses.
Why do I think this, well a couple of reasons off the top of my head:
- blogs open up a manageable two way dialogue with customers, creating an open relationship and possibly even community,
- blogs are quick and easy to setup and present a cheap way for small businesses to develop a web presence,
- blogs are great for search engine optimisation i.e. improving your search rankings and attracting traffic,
- blogs provide a creative outlet for your employees to show the human side of your business,
- blogs are great public relations tools where you get to control the message.
But it seems I’m not the only one who thinks this. A recent article on Startups.co.uk also supports the value of blogs, referencing case studies like Stormhoek Wines - check out their guide to blogging - and a handful of others.
I had intended to post the link up here but for the life of me I can’t find it, but why not check out www.startups.co.uk anyway, it’s full of very useful advice for entrepreneurs.
If you’re new to blogging or want to find out more, why not come along to the London Bloggers Meetup for some inspiration! Or instead just get started with a blog at www.wordpress.org.

i think there are so many people who made loads of cash online - with blogs selling for a couple of thousand to tens of thousands
this is definitely a thriving industry!
heh. Nice. Keep up the good blogging.
Yes, you are absolutely right. Blog shows everyone our “human” side.
Very well said. Blogging is a booming industry and I think its only going to continue to grow. People have been turning a hobby into some serious cash and I just think it’s going to get bigger and bigger.
somehow i can’t agree with the value of some blogs like cashquest
they cheated and the buyer is a noob - for not knowing anything!
Your absolutely correct, the best thing about blogs is the ability to communicate with your audience.
Lots of people now are hooked with blogging. One thing i like blogging aside from the fact that you can earn money from it, is that it’s the best way to express your thoughts and opinions where your readers could share their ideas also.
I am completelly agree with you. Blogging is the future of web
The reason that i intensified blogging on my domain was not that i was convinced of my teaching abilities. No, i started it purely for seo reasons, and one month later i can proudly say, that topics on my blog appear in de top 5 of Google.be, which means that i can boost new websites by just blogging on their topic.
I have great respect for anyone that can maintain a blog. There is so much required in keeping up a blog. It’s so easy for me to think of articles or pieces to write. But, when I sit down to put a post together, all my ideas vanish. I usually end up reading the news for an hour.
However, the advantages of a blog are evident to anyone who uses one to promote there business. Even though I hate writing on my blogs, it is immensely beneficial.
Defenetly agree with you.Web 2.0 anb blogs especially will be very popular in the future!
blogs are a great way in making money online
either you focus on quality or quantity
but it’s always a huge challenge in getting sustainable traffic
I recommend blogs to my small business clients every time. A blog’s power as a marketing tools is reason enough - it allows them to add fresh content to the site, show a human face and bring in loads of traffic that wouldn’t have found the site any other way. If you can make the most out of the traffic coming in, it can mean better results - for free - than what you see coming in through advertising.
hey, thanks for all the great comments.
Jose - how many of your clients have started blogs because you have recommended they do? And have they actually helped with business growth? I’d love to hear of any specific examples or case studies of where blogging has paid off!!
Scuba Diving - I know what you mean about the challenge of getting sustainable traffic. I find the best way is to focus on writing quality content as this brings traffic up and bounce rates down - which is important for SERPs.
And yes there are some folks making a lot of money blogging, but it’s not a walk in the park. If you want to make blogging a full time job, you have to work hard and had a real passion for your niche, along with a real multi level approach to making money - adsense, PLR, text link ads, banners, affiliate schemes etc etc.
Cheers, everyone.
