Capacity Crowd at the London Bloggers Meetup
I recently took up the mantle of organising the London Bloggers Meetup Group and we had the first session last night. I have to admit I was a little apprehensive before hand, but it seems I shouldn’t have been as it went really well!
I was a little surprised by the interest on Meetup and even more surprised by how many people actually turned up. It seems blogging is no longer a past time for geeks, more a mainstream medium for fantastic people to wax lyrical, or for talented illustrators (see Blog Mouse below) to pick up book deals, or photographers to write about their passions, or for expats to stay in touch with the folks back home, or probably for most of you reading this, a source of making money. In fact you could say it was quite a colourful bunch who turned up - a representation of the rich tapestry of the blogosphere.

If you want to check out some of the bloggers who came along you can find most of their URLs below. Sorry for those who are missing or if I’ve mispelled your details - drop me an email and I’ll happily correct them.
I learnt some really interesting stuff last night. For example social review sites like Qype and We Love Local are the next big thing coming to a town near you soon. Most encouragingly I found that the blogosphere still has an awful lot of potential for whatever you want to make out of it - money, friends, a career, whatever. It seems there’s also still money to be found for online and Web 2.0 ventures for anyone that’s looking for funding.
A special thanks needs to go out to We Love Local’s Dan Bower who helped a great deal in getting the word out about the meetup. So, Dan, thanks! Hope you like the photo..

Wow. Blogging is really taking off in London. The same can be seen with the conventions for bloggers in New York City. This is really healthy for the internet.
It really was a great night Andy, with any luck I’ll be at the next too and be able to help out again.
I’m not 100% on the picture, but thanks anyway!
I agree, U said good and right Andy. good comment.
Wow.. Nice meeting. I wish I could be there…. I really missed it.
I am also agree with Andy that is a nice comment.
sounds like an interesting meeting.
This is to show that people who were panicking over the idea that computer and the internet will be the end of human contact and “face-to-face” interaction were deadly wrong.
[…] the Meetup is a great place to meet other bloggers and have a couple of drinks. At the last event we had around 25 bloggers many of whom stayed around till closing, chatting about blogging and […]
I like the iconograph,very enjoyable.
Hand-drawing with mouse - soooo nice
Oh! you are so much right about geeks that consider themselves real bloggers. I am sick and tired of the tons of boring stuff that they write. I wander who is reading that, because there are many of them who have a huge pr.
I think that bloggers are not geeks, but geeks can be bloggers
The so-called geek blogs have more PR because they are on the Internet longer than I’ve been linking to each other for so long. I think that’s the reason.
I get jealous every time I hear of such meetups, probably because we don’t have any here!
…BTW, this is the third time I’m posting the comment, I got an error 2 times before this!!
Sounds like a great meeting. I wish I could have been there. I am going to check out the We love local, sounds very interesting. Blogging is becoming huge everywhere it seems, which is cool.
Meet up is sometimes beneficial, as we get to learn new things from the people we meet, but it doesn’t work always.
Nice to hear about the meet up especially about bloggers. Good to meet new people and great to learn new things from all.
Blogging itself is a crowd, So meet up of bloggers will be crowdy much more. Anyways a nice meet up.
Crowd of bloggers at the meet up is usual but its really useful to get new ideas and things to learn for all.
It’s fun to do some blogs and they help us express our thoughts and insights about our daily life. One can be a good experience with a dentist.
It’s nice to have a blogger meetup like that. I wish I could have such a meetup too in my city.
Wow, sounds pretty cool, I am interested to know how many bloggers showed up and where do you hold such an event. Im guessing you used the net to spread the word of the meet.
It seems there’s also still money to be found for online and Web 2.0 ventures for anyone that’s looking for funding.
This is very interesting how many people have started blogging, perhaps it will continue or perhaps not.
I agree, even the stay at home mums are getting into blogging now. It probably still seems a little nerdy, but soooo many people do it!
