The Future of Marketing

I found this video on YouTube recently and it caught my attention mostly because it’s a presentation by Hugh MacLeod (of Gapingvoid.com fame) about social objects.

Now before watching the video I wasn’t entirely sure what was meant by social objects or that they should be at the centre of your marketing universe. But afterwards it seemed fairly clear that the social element is what makes a lot of the recent Web 2.0 success stories - MySpace, Facebook, Flickr etc etc - so successful.

Anyway, check out the video and remember this quote:

From now on if your marketing doesn’t have any kind of social object within it, you don’t have marketing, you just have junk

Great, thanks for the video. You are right. So many sozial media sites are successfull so there must be something to them. I read in a blog that his blog only got popular after he started to write about other related bloggers in a positive manner. I guess being social drives success.

It makes a lot of sense. People like to both participate and get recognition. It’s just not possible with a static site because it lacks voice and outreach. -Gi

Thanks for sharing the video. I’m still not into the social media sites, but it looks like I don’t have a choice.

Nice video - Social media sites have come a long way over the last few years and it is becoming more & more evident that people like to watch a step by step tutorial, rather than read about it.

Streaming media has become the lazy mans gold mind (As far as viewers go). Thats right I said it, & I am just as guilty of being lazy (When I can get away with it) just as much as the next person.

Like the convenience of the remote control for the TV - Social media communities are the NEW - IN - thing. As long as there are people that learn easier from visual stimulants, then there will always be a high demand for social media.

As we both know, there will always be a visual demand. :)
    Nice Blog Post, Thanks again!

I will surely watch this video. I am interested about marketing and I do agree that if marketing has no social thing on it would be consider a piece of junks considering that marketing is about networking as a whole.

I do agree with this video. You must need to become active in social network. As it could not only help you gain friends but also gain prospective clients and traffic as well. Marketing needs people and the easiest way to gain people and market your site is through social site like stumble upon, diggs and also a lot more social media as well.
